Raw Halo | Keeping It Raw

I don't know if you've noticed recently but raw chocolate has become quite a thing. Made from natural ingredients (and most of them refined sugar free), Raw Halo have in my opinion made one of the best bars on the market. Not to mention, the most stunning packaging I've ever seen a chocolate bar come in.

Raw Halo is an artisan raw chocolate company set up by Meg and Jonathan in 2014, Meg wanted to cut out refined sugar but found it was difficult to find raw chocolate that tasted good. I can totally relate to this since until recently I had the same problem. Meg set up her business selling these bars to local London retailers to begin with but with the help of her partner Jonathan and a crowdfunding campaign, their business grew! Now can you believe they are stocked in places like Harrods and Wholefoods. Amazing!

I cut out most refined sugar, dairy and gluten 6 months ago for health reasons. It was HARD - a lot harder than I thought actually. Cutting out one food group is tricky but three?? It can also be a struggle to find "naughty" treats that still taste delicious. What I like about raw chocolate is that its curbing a sweet craving whilst also having some health benefits.

5 Benefits of raw cacao

- Highest plant based source of iron
- 40 times more antioxidants than blueberries
- More calcium than cows milk
- A natural mood enhancer
- Full of magnesium for a healthy heart and brain

A standard bar of Raw Halo chocolate is made from cacao butter, cacao powder and coconut sugar - which is used as the natural sweetener. Some of the bars contain cashew nuts, pink Himalayan salt and inulin powder (a prebiotic fiber that's most often extracted from chicory). All the bars are 100% natural, organic and gluten free with many of the other bars dairy and refined sugar free too. Sometimes raw chocolate can taste really bitter, but I think these have just the right amount of coconut sugar in to sweeten them. My absolute favourite is the Dark and Sweet Orange, with the Mylk and Salted Caramel coming in a close second. The caramel extract contains raw dairy cream (its lactose free however) which makes it taste really decedent. There's also the perfect balance of salt too!

You can find them in both 35g individual and 70g sharing bars, there's currently 13 different flavours to choose from so you'd be hard pressed to not find one you like. You can pick them up from Raw Halo directly, Planet Organic, Dolphin Fitness and many other independent health shops as well as the bigger stores I mentioned earlier. Go give them a try, you wont be sorry!

Until Next Time xo
